Progress photos: how to actually compare them

Use consistent framing and keep a full backup of your photos before changing devices.

Make the two images comparable

Choose a repeatable place for the camera, a similar distance and consistent lighting. Keep the camera height and orientation steady. Compare the same pose and use similar clothing if that is comfortable for you. A different crop, angle or light can change the appearance of an image without showing a meaningful change in your body.

Give each photo a clear context

Keep the date with the image. Pick a pose you can reproduce and avoid editing the shape of the body or using a filter that changes what you are comparing. You do not need to publish the photo for it to be useful. A private record can simply help you inspect an interval you chose, alongside the other information you recorded.

Compare an interval, not a performance

Look at two comparable dates rather than repeatedly taking a photo until one looks better. Your training history can show what happened between them. Weight and measurements add different observations. A photo cannot establish body-fat percentage, prove a cause or diagnose a problem; treat it as a visual record with limits, not a verdict.

Use the guide without changing the comparison

MilliMark’s posing guide can help you keep a repeatable position. Use the same pose when comparing dates. Photo tools are part of Pro, and deletion is available from photo detail with confirmation so that browsing the gallery does not put a delete button over every thumbnail. Inspect the image you intend to remove before confirming.

Back up the actual images

MilliMark’s managed cloud records backup excludes progress photos. A full file export is the way to keep records and photos together. Save the export somewhere you can find again before clearing browser data or changing devices. Signing in is not a substitute for a photo backup that was never made. Start with the camera position and the backup habit; the rest of the comparison becomes easier to trust.
